PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS
Fullerton Crossings 601 S. Placentia Ave., Fullerton, CA
B&D Construction Co., Inc. performed excavating and stockpiling 80,000 tons of contaminated soil, importing soil, underground storage tank removal, installation of infrastructure including sewer, storm drain, water, and electrical. B&D Construction Co., Inc. also performed grading for pad, curb & gutter, and parking lot.
Quinn CAT City of Industry, California
B&D Construction Co., Inc. chemically treated approximately +60,000 tons of heavy metals contaminated soil identified during redevelopment activities. B&D permitted two Transportable Treatment Units (TTU) through the DTSC permitting branch to double the daily production to maintain the project schedule. Prior to processing contaminated soil, the soil was screened to remove debris and maximize daily TTU production. The screened soil was processed using a chemical reagent based on a bench scale recipe. Treated soil was sampled and analyzed by a State certified laboratory to confirm successful treatment of soluble heavy metals below California and/or EPA regulatory levels. Following soil treatment confirmation, treated soil was loaded and transported to the appropriate disposal facility. B&D coordinated the environmental work with the general contractor to ensure the redevelopment schedule was maintained.
Blossom Plaza Los Angeles, California
B&D Construction Co., Inc. chemically treated approximately 27,000 tons of heavy metals contaminated soil from an unknown source. B&D permitted a Transportable Treatment Unit (TTU) through the DTSC permitting branch. Prior to processing contaminated soil, the soil was screened to remove all debris. The screened soil was processed using a chemical reagent based on a bench scale recipe. Treated soil was sampled to confirm treatment of heavy metals below EPA regulatory levels. Confirmed treated soil was loaded and transported to the appropriate disposal facility.
Agricultural Park Riverside, California
B&D Construction Co., Inc. worked closely throughout the various phases on the Ag Park project with the owner, RWQCB, US EPA, and the DTSC to facilitate a No Further Action (NFA) notification from the DTSC, allowing the former brownfield site to be developed for residential use. During the various phases of work, B&D managed 550,000 tons of impacted soil for offsite transportation to the appropriate landfill. During the remediation phase B&D managed over 50,000 tons of concrete and asphalt by sorting, sizing, crushing, sampling for waste disposal/reuse characterization, offsite transportation, and landfill disposal/landfill beneficial reuse. Subsequent to the DTSC’s NFA, B&D graded the site to blue top, installed utility trenches to each residential lot, installed storm drains, and constructed curb and gutter along all the streets. B&D managed stormwater BMPs and erosion control.
Hollywood Park Rams Stadium Inglewood, California
B&D Construction Co., Inc. chemically treated approximately 125,000 tons of heavy metal (lead and arsenic) contaminated soil from an unknown source. B&D permitted a Transportable Treatment Unit (TTU) through the DTSC permitting branch. Prior to processing contaminated soil, the soil was screened to remove all debris. The screened soil was processed using a chemical reagent based on a bench scale recipe. Treated soil was sampled to confirm treatment of heavy metals below EPA and California regulatory levels. Confirmed treated soil was loaded and transported to the appropriate disposal facility.
5 Point Development - Great Park Irvine, California
B&D Construction Co., Inc. completed two separate remediations at the project site. Project Area 1; B&D chemically treated approximately 125,000 tons of heavy metals contaminated soil from a trap and skeet range. Project Area 2; B&D excavated 90,000 tons of VOC impacted soil, complying with Rule 1166 conditions either directly containerized the soil for export, or managed the VOC soil to minimize emissions for subsequent export to the appropriate facility. Following removal of the VOC contaminated soil, B&D rough graded the site to previous existing elevations.
Division 20 Portal Widening - ADCO Los Angeles, California
B&D Construction Co., Inc. excavated approximately, 65,000 tons of hazardous and non-hazardous soil from the former ADCO and NCS properties acquired by Metro for future Division 20 Portal Widening construction. B&D proposed a in-situ grid sampling protocol to minimize handling of excavated soil, saving Metro schedule time and cost. B&D excavated the 6-acre property 10-feet below existing sidewalk grade. Throughout the excavation, B&D managed profiles for each waste characterization. The number of profiles generated during this project consisted of 9 profiled waste streams to 6 different TSDF/landfill facilities. B&D worked with the owner and city to abandon known and unknown utilities across the excavation. Many of the unknown utilities required temporary shoring at the property line, a hot-tap crew, and rescue crew to safely abandon the utilities outside the property line. B&D unearthed several unknown USTs and worked with the consultant and LA County Fire to remove them for closure. Throughout the project B&D maintained SWPPP BMPs at the project site and adjacent streets. Following excavation of the 6 acres, B&D completed final precise grade on the bottom of the excavation using its GPS equipped grading equipment. B&D maintained a perfect safety record at the site which lasted over 365 days.
Scattergood Generating Station El Segundo, California
B&D Construction Co., Inc. performed demolition support, construction of infrastructure facilities, and grading activities. B&D construction work consisted of constructing a 2-acre sump with placement of 4,000 cubic yards of slurry backfill, import of Class II base and precise grade of parking lot areas, construction of retaining walls along parking area to support Class II base for finish grade, curb construction, installation of storm drain pile to existing storm water vault, management of asphalt paving cap in area, daily and seasonal stormwater management during construction activities.
Cal Compact Carson, California
B&D Construction Co., Inc. completed the civil grade construction for future development of retail and mixed-use construction. The site is a former landfill requiring regrade to allow installation of piles, pile caps, vapor barrier, and utilities. During the regrade work, B&D relocated 190,000 cubic yards of municipal solid waste (trash), and 150,000 cubic yards of soil. The grading took place across the 62-acre site. B&D completed trash and soil removal and relocation, utility trench excavation, and final grade using equipment equipped with GPS. B&D’s equipment fleet with GPS includes 336 and 308 excavators, D5 dozer, D8 dozer, JD 772 blade, and a CAT skid steer. B&D sized and placed structural foam across the site as required. B&D screened 80,000 cubic yards of ¾” rock to meet construction specifications and placed the screed rock on finish graded areas using a telebelt system and LGP equipment. B&D used multiple screens, screen decks, and magnet to remove steel and other ferrous materials from the CMB stockpiles located at the site. Throughout the construction activities, B&D maintained the roads and slopes (grub and grade), as well as maintained SWPPP BMPs.
